This is not your average health and fitness center. Between the Bridges Functional Fitness Center is at the forefront of a major shift in the human physical fitness paradigm. The new paradigm focuses on functional fitness. It’s about more than merely looking attractive and fit. It’s about being able to perform all the activities of your daily life – including those you were previously unable to perform – at the highest possible level.
The focus is functional exercises.
Exercises that simultaneously use multiple muscles and joints to improve muscular endurance, overall strength, coordination, balance, posture and agility- to get a challenging, effective and fun full-body workout, as well as prepare the body for everyday, real-world activities. The benefits are far reaching, from improved vitality to prevention of many conditions including heart disease, diabetes, cancer and osteoporosis.
Functional exercise is individualized.
The program is specific to the goals of an individual, focusing on meaningful tasks. The exercise will be specific to the individual’s state of health, including presence or history of injury or disease. An assessment will be performed to help guide exercise selection and training intensity. The equipment used varies from state-of-the-art functional weight machines to physioballs, resistance tubes and whole body vibration equipment. Your exercise prescription will be formulated by Dr. Jeffrey Kotulski, the Medical Director of the Functional Fitness Center. In addition to his training as an Osteopathic Physician, he also went to school for a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. There are also two Certified Exercise Trainers on staff to assist you with your personalized needs when exercising at the Center.
