This is not your average health and fitness center. Between the Bridges Functional Fitness Center is at the forefront of a major shift in the human physical fitness paradigm. The new paradign focuses on functional fitness. It’s about more than merely looking attractive and fit. It’s about being able to perform all the activities of your daily life – including those you were previously unable to perform – at the highest possible level.

As a triple board-certified doctor of osteopathy, Dr. Jeffrey Kotulski is uniquely qualified to address and maximize the functional capabilities of the human body. Instead of just helping you get stronger and look better, Dr. Kotulski focuses on an effective “functional whole-body” approach to health and fitness.

Functional fitness training

Between the Bridges Functional Fitness Center is about functional strength training, functional aerobic training and functional flexibility training, based on functional medicine principles. What makes this different than other fitness training programs is that it focuses on total body functioning. A great-looking body can take you so far, but the ability to function at a high level when performing real-world activities is what really counts.

Functional strength training

The focus here is on functional exercises. These are compound movement exercises that simultaneously use multiple muscles and joints to improve muscular endurance, overall strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, posture and agility. It’s strength training that is challenging, effective and fun – a full-body workout that will also prepare you for everyday, real-world activities.

Far-reaching benefits

The benefits are far reaching, from improved vitality to the prevention of many conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer and osteoporosis. Functional exercise is also individualized. The program is specific to the goals of an individual, focusing on meaningful tasks. The exercise will be specific to the individual’s state of health, including presence or history of injury or disease. Our assessment will help guide your exercise selection and training intensity. We use equipment that varies from state-of-the-art functional weight machines to physioballs, resistance tubes and whole-body vibration equipment.

Your own unique exercise prescription

Your exercise prescription will be formulated by Dr. Kotulski, the medical director of our Between the Bridges Functional Fitness Center. In addition to his training as an osteopathic medicine physician, he holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology. Our certified exercise trainers assist you with your personal needs when you train at the center.
